WHO WE ARE
About us
The Kenya Society for Immunology was founded to foster the development of immunology by increasing intellectual exchange between clinical and basic science to improve health and disease in Kenya. The society provides a platform for mentoring of new scientists interested in Immunology.
What is Immunology?
Immunology is a medical discipline that studies components, biological process and explores the host’s immune system and its ability to protect against invading pathogens. Failure to mount an effective immune response results in higher risk of infections and severe symptoms, causing autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus). In understanding immunology we seek to design interventions that can aide in the control of infectious diseases. Key interventions that result in protection and management of diseases are vaccination and development of better diagnostics. Immunology is dynamic and immunologists are constantly pushing to discover ways of defending the public against new and ongoing healthcare challenges. As a discipline, it extends beyond laboratory and clinical research to public health initiatives to eradication of diseases from our planet.
